Mainstream Media Complicit in Iraq-Vietnam Parallels

Thomas Friedman writing a op-ed in the New York Times compared the current war in Iraq to the Tet Offensive. For the record I think he is right. All the parallels are there. The only problem is that so many people do not understand the Tet Offensive. This is a battle the US did not lose.

The Tet offensive was launched by the North Vietnanese Army (NVA) in 1968 in an attempt to catch the US and the South Vietnamese off-guard. Instead of a glorious victory as they had hoped, the NVA lost and lost big-time. The MSM, led by Walter Cronkite, saw the ferocity of the attacks and declared that the war was not winnable. In published memoirs by NVA generals, North Vietnam were ready to capitulate and sue for peace. The NVA stuck with the war only because of the American media who had already given up. Wikipedia says this about tet:

The Tết Offensive can be considered a crushing military defeat for the Communist forces, as neither the Viet Cong nor the North Vietnamese army achieved any of their tactical goals. Furthermore, the operational cost of the offensive was dangerously high, with the Viet Cong essentially crippled by the huge losses inflicted by South Vietnamese and other Allied forces. Nevertheless, the Offensive is widely considered a turning point of the war in Vietnam, with the NLF and PAVN winning an enormous psychological and propaganda victory. Although US public opinion polls continued to show a majority supporting involvement in the war, this support continued to deteriorate and the nation became increasingly polarized over the war.[1] President Lyndon Johnson saw his popularity fall sharply after the Offensive, and he withdrew as a candidate for re-election in March of 1968. The Tết Offensive is frequently seen as an example of the value of propaganda, media influence and popular opinion in the pursuit of military objectives.

Lets jump ahead thirty-eight years to 2006. The US launched a war into Iraq to rid the country of weapons of mass destruction and remove a dictator who defied UN resolutions and supported terrorists around the world. After removing Saddam Hussein from power, terrorists have poured into Iraq from neighboring countries to bolster the faltering insurgent attacks. As suicide attacks have killed both soldiers and civilians alike, the MSM have taken this occasion to switch sides and support those who are killing our soldiers. The media have declared this war all but winnable. There is no way for the terrorists or ‘insurgents’ to beat the United States military. The terrorists are losing and losing big-time, but the MSM in a move that can only be described as traitorous is supporting enemies of the United States. The American public led on by the treacherous media has been slowly turning against this war.

There is no doubt the war is polarizing the country. Most Americans either support the war, or they are against it. Very few are ambivalent. As such the President is losing support. He is given little credit for trying to beat back the terrorists and defend the United States of America from further terrorist attacks.

In an interview on ABC, President Bush said Friedman was right, but only as far as how the terrorists are trying to influence an election. Of course I would also add the parallel also extends to how the MSM is treating the war.

U.S. President George W. Bush says he sees a possible parallel in the increase in violence in Iraq and the 1968 Tet offensive that prompted Americans to lose support for the Vietnam War.

But the White House on Thursday said the president had not been making the analogy that Iraq had reached a similar turning point. Instead, he was saying that insurgents were possibly increasing violence to try to influence coming U.S. elections. (snip)

“Look, here’s how I view it,” Bush said. “First of all, al Qaeda is still very active in Iraq. They are dangerous. They are lethal. They are trying to not only kill American troops, but they’re trying to foment sectarian violence.

“They believe that if they can create enough chaos, the American people will grow sick and tired of the Iraqi effort and will cause government to withdraw,” he said.

President Bush is absolutely correct. There are three distinct parallels between the Vietnam War and this War in Iraq: the reporting by the MSM and the efforts our enemies to influence an election.

The third parallel are the actions of the cut-and-run crowd. In the liberal blogosphere there is a chorus of voices actually hoping the US loses in Iraq. They have even found their very own Ho Chi Minh in the person of Osama bin Laden. The only thing not found in the news is another Jane Fonda posing with al-Qaeda members as they shoot at our soldiers.

For some reason the MSM are portraying George Bush’s comments as saying the US can not win in Iraq, which is not what he said. He was discussing the actions of the foreign terrorists in Iraq. Bush should have included the treacherous actions of the MSM in both this war and the Vietnam War in his discussion on ABC.

There certainly are parallels between the Vietnam War and this War in Iraq. But most noteworthy are the actions by the msm and liberals which constitute a fifth column in both wars. Forgotten in this discussion of the War in Iraq and the War on Terror in general is the fact that we must win this war to be safe from terrorist attacks. It would really be nice if the MSM could finally chose the right side and support both the United States and our troops as they combat terrorists.

There is Strong, and Then There is Army Strong

BlackFive has a posted concerning the new Army Strong video. I have been going around showing it to my friends and family. There is one thing I’ve noticed; the more I watch it, the more I like it. The new Army Strong slogan goes way beyond the old ‘Army of One.’ The new slogan is about American pride. It is shows what is so great about our fighting men and women. It is about America.

Watch it yourself a few times. Its message comes through loud and clear and the message is sharper each time I watch it. Share it with a friend.

Former Clinton Advisors Join Fray Over “The Path to 9/11″

First the moonbats started going crazy over the docudrama to be aired by ABC and now key members of Clinton’s administration have joined the fray writing letters to Disney, the parent company of ABC. I have not seen the liberals this worked up since they were ‘robbed’ of the 2000 Presidential election. The left are working themselves into a frenzy over this miniseries, which according to the Path to 9/11 website, faults both sides for their failure to stop this attack.

ABC’s upcoming miniseries “The Path to 9/11″ is generating a firestorm among members of the Clinton administration, who claim the two-part, made-for-TV film is filled with factual errors and lies.

Three members of the administration — former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, former National Security Adviser Samuel R. Berger and Clinton aide Bruce Lindsey, who now heads the Clinton Foundation — have sent letters to Walt Disney Company, parent of ABC, demanding that it re-edit or pull the five-hour film, scheduled for air Sunday and Monday nights without commercial interruption.

The ever angry left is spewing so much venom and foaming at the mouth because of the ‘lies’ in this docudrama when they did not see anything wrong with the hugely inaccurate Reagan movie. It is just a matter of time before these moonbats bring up CBS’s capitulation on the mini-series on Ronald Reagan in 2003. CBS decided to pull the movie when Republicans and the Reagan family alike objected to the movie, noting the mini-series was more of a hit job than a docudrama. Unlike the CBS movie, ABC seems to be trying to ride the fence on who is really at fault when it comes to the most horrific attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor.

From press reports both Republicans and Democrats alike are likely to see problems in this film which depicts Bill Clinton as overly concerned about a certain intern in the White House rather than national issues like terrorism.

Lindsey and Douglas Band, a top lawyer in Clinton’s office, objected to advertisements for the miniseries, which they said suggested that Clinton wasn’t paying enough attention to the threat of terrorism. (snip)

The former Clinton officials reportedly are outraged that producers wrote into the film a sequence that strongly infers the president was preoccupied with the Monica Lewinsky affair instead of focusing on the threat from Usama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. Lindsey’s letter to Iger reportedly points out that the 9/11 Commission — which [Thomas] Kean co-chaired — actually stated that Clinton was “deeply concerned about bin Laden,” and that he received constant updates from administration intelligence and security officials.

I don’t see how anyone can say Bill Clinton was concerned about terrorism when his response to repeated attacks by al-Qaeda was to launch a few cruise missiles which did nothing but blow up a tent and an aspirin factory. To even suggest one of Bill Clinton’s top priorities was terrorism is laughable. Both his actions and inactions in the White House are indefensible. This does not leave President Bush blameless though most of the fault still lies at the feet of Bill Clinton.

It should also be pointed out that ABC had a paid consultant for the movie in 9/11 Commission co-Chair Thomas Kean. Surely if there were significant aspects of the docudrama which are not correct, he would have objected to them. Too much drama in a docudrama turns the movie into a work of fiction. As a paid consultant, Kean’s reputation is on the line.

And now it looks like ABC has folded. They are now going to place warnings in the docudrama saying that certain scenes were made up though Kean still defends it.

Kean defended the miniseries, saying that like the 9/11 Commission Report, it was balanced.

“People in both administrations are not going to be happy if it’s portrayed accurately,” he told the Times.

Isn’t that the truth. The big difference is in the responses of the Republicans and Democrats. Republicans can handle the truth while the Democrats can not. Republicans will take their mistakes and learn from them. The Democrats will take their mistakes and blame them on someone else. This movie is all about the reaction of each side. The Republicans seem to have learned from their mistakes and have taken the fight to our enemies. The Democrats have learned one thing: obstruct and deny, obstruct and deny. Both sides could learn from their mistakes, only Democrats don’t make any. Don’t believe me, then ask them. They will tell you it was some else’s fault.

And it seems I am being nice to Bill. Doc at American Traditionalist says:

The uproar and whinning by Clinton just proves what a cowardly lying wimp we all know he is. Just like a child caught in a lie and having the truth told about it. They whine and cry foul when their fake image is painted for what it really is.

Isn’t that the truth. Stay tuned for more.

The Path to 9/11, ABC’s New Movie Makes the Left Go Ballistic

The left-wing blogs are going ballistic.  ABC, not known for their conservativism, is set to broadcast a movie about what led up to the 9/11 attacks called Path to 9/11.

So the CIA, the Northern Alliance, surrounding a house where bin Laden is in Afghanistan, they’re on the verge of capturing, but they need final approval from the Clinton administration in order to proceed.

So they phoned Washington. They phoned the White House. Clinton and his senior staff refused to give authorization for the capture of bin Laden because they’re afraid of political fallout if the mission should go wrong, and if civilians were harmed…Now, the CIA agent in this is portrayed as being astonished. “Are you kidding?” He asked Berger over and over, “Is this really what you guys want?”

Berger then doesn’t answer after giving his first admonition, “You guys go in on your own. If you go in we’re not sanctioning this, we’re not approving this,” and Berger just hangs up on the agent after not answering any of his questions.

If this is true, it definately shows a tremendous amount of ineptitude on the part of the Clinton administration.  But if this did not happen, then maybe the liberals have a point.  Remember the CBS fiasco with the Reagan movie in 2003 that was so full of errors that it angered a great portion of the nation and was pulled from broadcast television?

Kos goes on to discredit the entire quote which he calls a ‘work of fiction.’

That ABC is airing the film is gross negligence. They are now no different than Fox News, and should be treated as such.

So what are the liberal blogs all upset about?  They are mad because ABC did not place most of the blame for 9/11 on President George W. Bush.  Liberals are so used to having the MSM marching in lockstep with them, they can not stand it when the MSM makes decisions on their own.  Judging from the information on the website dedicated to the movie, blame is equally placed on Bill Clinton and George Bush.  But that is not enough for the far left, they want the movie edited to the point to where President Bush is destroyed politically and publicly humiliated.  And if they can take some revenge for the elections they lost in 2000 and 2002 and 2004, so much the better.  The left could care less about the truth.  The truth be told, the left’s very own hero in Bill Clinton bares a goodly portion of the responsibility for the attacks that left over three thousand Americans dead.  The problem is these moonbats don’t want the American people to realize that terrorism started long before 9/11 and George Bush.  This country has been at war with the terrorists for many years.  Fortunately this country finally has a president who is willing to take the war to the terrorists.

I plan on watching the movie.  We will soon see whether ABC is willing to stand on truth or cave in to the liberals who are intent on hiding Bill Clinton’s corrupt legacy.  Sandy Berger may have had a larger role is stopping the arrest of Osama bin Laden than we realize.  But then again the movie is a docudrama with different parts highlighted to make sure the viewing audience understands the main points.  The movie also highlights the role of the Clinton administration in briefing the new Bush administration and how ‘W’ dropped the ball.  The White House has repeatedly said this never happened.  So where is the truth? Stay tuned.

Other blogs including these have more on The Path to 9/11 including:

BlackFive has more, including how the liberal blogs are launching a campaign to force ABC to either make drastic changes to the movie or to pull it from broadcasting all together.

Dean Barnett posting on Hugh Hewitt has some reservations on the accuracy of the film since it is a docudrama.  He fearing that too much might have been dramatized in the movie for it to be a historical document.  Dean says those who to back this movie “will mortgage their credibility.”

Is Iraq All That Bad?

How bad is Iraq?  Everywhere you turn people are saying the war in Iraq is not worth it, that we are losing, that the war is a ‘quagmire.’  Considering how most people receive their information, it is little wonder they feel this way.  By-in-large, people get their news from one of the big three networks of ABC, CBS, or NBC.  Or if they have cable, they receive their news from either Fox or CNN.  Even the best of these, Fox News, has constant news on a new American death in Iraq, or how an IED killed an Iraqi police detail.  If bad news is all the American public is hearing, then they will logically begin thinking we are losing.

It seems we have learned nothing from the war in Vietnam.  The news networks told inaccurate stories how we were losing the war when we were not.  How do you win every battle and lose the war?  You can’t.  And yet as a result of the inaccurate, unreliable news organizations, the American public began to believe we were losing the Vietnam War.  The lesson to learn is we can not trust the network or cable news organizations to tell the whole story.  Fox occasionally tells the good news, but not enough.

Powerline has an informative post putting the number of American deaths in Iraq in perspective.

A total of 2,471 servicemembers have died in Iraq from 2003 to the present, a period of a little over three years. That total is almost exactly one third of the number of military personnel who died on active duty from 1980 to 1982, a comparable time period when no wars were being fought. Until very recently, our armed forces lost servicemen at a greater rate than we have experienced in Iraq, due solely to accidental death.

Where was the outrage then?  It makes you wonder about the fickleness of the MSM.

The Left on the Bush Speech

You really have to wonder about the Left in this country. They are more concerned about missing their favorite television programs because of the Bush speech than they are about what he is going to say. Let me say that again, they do not care about illegal immigration. Or to say this another way, the left is more concerned what is coming on their precious television screens than they are the security of this nation. Just search ‘Bush speech’ on Technorati and see for yourselves. These people are out-there!

No Confidence in Bush Speech on Immigration

George Bush’s speech on immigration brings to mind Rod Stewart’s classic song of the 70’s, “Tonight’s the Night.

Stay away from my window
Stay away from my back door too
Disconnect the telephone line
Relax baby and draw that blind

Kick off your shoes and sit right down
Loosen up that frilly French gown
Let me pour you a good long drink
Oh baby don’t you hesitate cause

Tonight’s the night

Tonight’s speech is one of the most anticipated speeches of this administration since 9/11.  The President’s primetime address will also be, if you believe all the leaked press reports, one of the most anticlimactic speeches of the Bush era.  I can understand people living in Mexico wanting to come to a country like the United States.  Mexico has nearly everything this nation has in terms of natural resources.  According to the CIA-The World Factbook, Mexico has petroleum, silver, copper, gold, lead, zinc, natural gas, and timber.  Unfortunately Mexico has many problems.  Their problem is a corrupt government and corrupt officials.  40% of citizens live below the poverty line.  90% of cocaine from Mexico enter the US markets.  The state still owns the petroleum industry.  Vicente Fox is trying to institute reforms but a reluctant Congress will not follow his lead.

President Bush has the opportunity introduce some real border reforms tonight.  He has the chance to let the American people know he has been listening to their concerns on border security.  He has the opportunity to rejuvenate the Republican Party who has been abandoning him in droves.  All the President has to say is that he is going to first and foremost, protect our borders.  All other considerations are a distant second.  I do not want to hear anything about a ‘guest worker program.’  I do not want to hear about the hard working the Mexican people.  I do not want to hear that these illegal immigrants are taking jobs no one else wants.  I want President Bush to tell me how he is going to protect the American people from invasion from those south of the border.  I just want our existing laws on immigration enforced.  This is not a racist issue, immigration is a law and order issue.  If the President is not going to enforce the laws we already have on the books, then remove them, declare them unconstitutional, but don’t ignore them.

What I think I am going to hear is that he is temporarily sending a few thousand troops to the border to assist in border security.  I also believe he will say he is going to implement a ‘guest worker program.’  From what I have been hearing about Bush’s speech, I am not going to be impressed.

Now comes word Mexican President Vicente Fox called George Bush asking if the president was going to militarize the border.  That certainly takes a lot of gall considering all the reports of the Mexican military taking shots at the Border patrol and guarding drug shipments into the United States.  Note to Fox, the border is already militarized, we just want to make sure that you are not the only one doing it.

The left in the blogosphere has been remarkable quiet concerning this issue.  The right on the other hand is a different matter all together.  Here are a few examples.

A Certain Slant of Light is another blogger who thinks President Bush is beginning to see the writing on the wall.

Conservatives want to hear tonight that the president now concedes that border security must be Job #1 and that “comprehensive immigration reform” legislation must be taken off the table and held in abeyance until border enforcement is bolstered adequate to the task at hand; and, conservatives want to see that the efficacy of such enforcement stops the human invasion of border-jumpers from the south dead in its tracks and for a long enough duration that they are satisfied that the Executive Branch has, at long last, gotten its act together and is committed to and capable of securing the border and enforcing immigration laws already on the books. That’s it, pure and simple.

Right Side of the Rainbow reprints an email he received from Rep. John Culberson of Texas who has been a critic of President Bush’s immigration policy for years.

Tonight, I sincerely hope we will witness a dramatic change. I continue to hear and see strong signals that the President and his close knit group of core advisors finally understand how fed up the nation is with the Administration’s continued refusal to protect our borders or enforce our immigration laws.

PA Pundits considers the move to deploy troops along the to be merely a band-aid.

If everything I have read thus far today is correct, Bush’s move to put National Guard troops on the border is akin to putting a band-aide on a sucking chest wound.

It doesn’t do anything to solve the problem, it just covers it, makes it looks like your doing something, in hopes that it will go away.

We put troops on the border, but we give them no power. It’s tits on a bull, totally pointless and a waste of time.

It’s an inept, feeble-minded, and idiotic response to a growing SERIOUS issue.

It’s not about being racist, it’s not about being “xenophobic”. It’s about national security, it’s about enforcing the laws that are ready on the books.
