The Left Finally Admits it; They are NOT Patriotic

On a day when the nation should be thanking God Almighty they were born in the United States of America, the left instead turns to navel gazing reflecting on the real or perceived sins of the past. In their view the United States is not a great county born in liberty and blessed by God. To them this country has killed, taken and lied their way to prominence and power. It is not worth defending physically, verbally, or in print.  This is the ‘new patriotism.’ You show your pride for your country by running it down.

It’s July Fourth again, a day of near-compulsory flag-waving and nation-worshipping. Count me out. Spare me the parades and the martial music. And don’t befoul nature’s sky with your F-16s. You see, I don’t believe in patriotism.

This moron goes on to tell some of the great atrocities of the world (including many of ours) and how these acts can be attributed to misplaced patriotism. Some of the facts he uses are simplistic at best. Or down right wrong at the worst. To say WWI started because of patriotism and nationalism is extremely simplistic.

Then comes the first of the two diatribes:

In the last five years in Iraq, tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians have died because the United States, the patriarch of patriotism, saw fit to impose itself, without just cause, on another country. But the excuse was patriotism, wrapped in President Bush’s brand of messianic militarism: that we, the great Americans, have a duty to deliver “God’s gift of freedom” to every corner of the world.

How many civilians did Saddam Hussein kill before we went in? Hmmm? The US went into Iraq for many reasons: terrorism, WMDs, he attacked US planes, he failed to follow twelve years of UN resolutions and 17 resolutions. At no time was patriotism a thought in attacking Iraq. Those who want to bend or twist the facts for the US entering the war can do so without bashing those who are patriotic to their country. And by the way, President Bush never said anything about it being our duty to ‘deliver God’s gift of freedom’ to the world. The man is trying to hoodwink the American people as others on the left are doing.

Then comes the second diatribe.

To the extent that we’re a great country - not the greatest, mind you: that’s a fool’s game - we’re less of a great country today.

Because those things that truly made us great - the system of checks and balances, the enshrinement of our individual rights and liberties - have all been systematically assaulted by Bush and Vice President Cheney.

From the Patriot Act to the Military Commissions Act to the new FISA Act, and all the signing statements in between, we are less great today.

From Abu Ghraib to Bagram Air Base and Guantanamo, we are less great today.

Admit it. We don’t have a lot to brag about.

It is time, it is long past time, to get over the American superiority complex.

It is time, it is long past time, to put patriotism back on the shelf - out of the reach of children and madmen.

Give a pin (or a computer) to an idiot with an axe to grind, you end up with garbage. This is a great country because of the freedoms we have written in the Constitution. This Constitution allows idiots like you, Mr. Rothchild, to spew all the vile and vitriol all you want without fearing for your life. Most of our men and women in uniform serve their country proudly, with honor and integrity.  Our President is charged with protecting this country.  Our soldiers are charged with defending our country.  Therefore, with your brainless leftist trash list of grievances, we owe the country no apology. 

I served my country proudly so idiots like you can say stupid things. It is people like you who say: “God bless America. No, no, no. G.D. America.” And guess what. The very country you despise, Mr. Rothchild, gives you the right to say it. Think about it, only in America could someone who hates his country have a good shot at becoming President of the United States.

People like you on the left despise our military and the freedoms they ensure. Your brother in the left, Chris Satullo, at the Philadelphia Enquirer pinned an editorial which is a perfect example of rantings of a radical leftwing moonbat. I would like to add more, but I will defer to Lt. Col. Jessup from a Few Good Men:

And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because, deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said “thank you” and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand at post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.” (Hat tip: Black Five)

Thank you, Col. I could not have said it better. Now lets look at some of the things we should be proud of (list is not complete by any means):

We liberated Europe twice. We blocked communism around the world looking in the face for a good fifty years before they blinked. We saved the world from communism.  We fed and rebuilt Europe when they could do neither for themselves.  We gave the world the automobile and the airplane.  Because of the United States, we have cell phone service to almost all parts of the globe, satellite TV, and the internet.   We fight wars to protect ourselves and then help the offending country rebuild.  We fight war with saving civilians in mind.   Millions have been rescued, saved, fed, clothed, and protected by the United States.  In times of disaster the first one in is the United States.

Yes, I am proud of my country.  I am patriotic. And I enjoy the freedoms this country provides, no thanks to the left who are not willing to defend it either vocally or physically.  We have a saying in Aggieland: “Highway 6 runs both ways.”  Pitch in and help or get out.

The world is a much better place because of the United States of America. And I thank God that we are NOT dependent on people like you for our liberty and the freedoms we enjoy. Thank God for the American soldier. (including sailors, airmen, etc.)

Happy Birthday America

Happy Birthday America!  May God grant you many, many more years to come.  For 232 you have endured and even prospered while other nations have become a footnote in history.  America was founded on the idea that all men (and women) were created equal.  For 232 years men and women have fought to protect some same values.  Today our brave soldiers are fighting and dying to preserve those same values this country was built on.

For people like me who are proud of their country, we can not adequately express our feelings towards America without a thank you towards those who protect us.  And so with pride in my heart for this great country and the freedoms I enjoy, I say thank you to the men and women who wear the uniform protecting our freedoms around the world.

One of the greatest speeches of all time was written by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.  During the speech he expresses pride in America, the reason he is continuing the fight, and expresses a heartfelt pride for those fighting and dying for those freedoms.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Wow! Even today this speech gives me chills.  As an American patriot I have read this speech dozens of times.  As a history teacher I read this great speech…more times than I can count.  Each time I read it, it fills me with pride for my country and fills me with gratitude towards the American soldier.
