A Chink in the Armor of Barack Obama

A chink in the armor.  That is what Jeremiah Wright is to Barack Obama.  How can you possibly sit in the pew of a church for twenty years and not know the things your pastor stood for?  And what does he stand for: racism, anti-Americanism, class warfare, anti-government, etc.  Then once you know what your pastor stands for, how can you possibly stay there.  I left a church because the pastor said things I believed disparaged our troops.  That does not make me a better person.  The only reason I can see for Barack Obama staying at that church was because he agreed with his pastor.

The Reverend said things like:

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people,” he said in a 2003 sermon. “God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.”

The ‘good’ pastor has also said that “rich whites control the country”, called the US the “U.S. of KKK-A,” compared the US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to the 9/11 attacks.

If there was a time when everything has come together, it is now.  Barack Obama refuses to wear a US lapel pin.  Michelle Obama says that she is proud of America for the first time.  Taken in its totality, I would have to believe that Mr. Obama has the same beliefs as his pastor and wife.  Now to be fair, Obama has finally come out against his pastor, but the question remains, What has taken him so long?  I would have left years ago, years ago.

One thing I would not do is to characterize all blacks this way.  I have had the opportunity to travel all over the United States visiting more than thirty different states.  Every Sunday I stop to go to church.  I must admit, that I have attended more black churches than white while on the road, mostly because I do not care what kind of Christian church I attend and partially because I do not know where the ‘white’ churches are.  But I have never, ever heard a black pastor say the things Pastor Wright has said.  I am of the opinion most black church pastors are proud of America.  My family and I have been shown more love and have been welcomed with more warmth in black churches than we have in white churches.  Of course there are two large differences between black and white churches.  If you go to a black church, do not expect the church service to be over at noon.  They are just beginning the sermon at noon.  And second, black churches are unashamed of their Christianity.  The overriding issue has been and should be Christ, not these other side issues.  And for that I do indeed love my black brothers and sisters in Christ.

With that said, where does the Barack Obama stand?  Obviously he does not stand with the majority of the black people I have visited in churches around the country.

There is a chink in Barack Obama’s armor.  The hard left already agrees with Pastor Wright so the only question is whether the left will continue to apologize for Obama as they have done in the past.  America is not the bad guy.  We do not need a President who believes America is as evil Obama’s pastor believes it is.

Note to Admiral Fallon, Fade Away

Navy Admiral William Fallon was fired/removed/or whatever you want to call it, as head of U.S. Central Command.  As commander of CentCom he was over the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq much like General Tommy Franks during both wars.  What was different about Fallon is that he has been openly critical in the press of the Bush administration and his policies in the Middle East, including Iraq.  He was also very critical of the surge in Iraq which is working so well to quell the violence there.

It was not just the Bush administration Fallon had problems with.  According to many sources including the LA Times, the Admiral and General Patraeus (the commander in charge in Iraq) had also come to loggerheads over what to do in Iraq.  Fallon wanted to pull the troops out much more quickly than Patraeus, nor did he agree with the General’s plan for a surge of additional troops.  As a result Fallon came to dislike Gen. David H. Petraeus.

The Democrats and, predictably, the two Democrat presidential contenders, have been all over this story.  Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic majority leader, called Fallon’s outing “yet another example that independence and the frank, open airing of experts’ views are not welcome in this administration.”

Hillary has called for Senate Armed Services Oversight Committee meetings to look into Fallon’s removal.  Obama says that as President, he will listen to his generals.  Right?!  Then of course Obama says he will send troops back into Iraq if he determines al Queda has moved in to the struggling country.  Huh?  With the terrorist group already operating there, I wonder what it would take for Obama, should he become President (God forbid) to make that announcement, a knock on the front door of the White House by black clad homicide bombers.  I wonder how long it will take for Fallon to join one of the two Democrat candidates telling the world that there are no terrorists in Iraq.

Fallon’s removal came way too late.  It reminds me of one Democrat other today’s Democrats hate to mention: Harry S. Truman.  58 years ago there was another general who could not keep his mouth shut and went to the press time and time again to voice positions which were not only against the views of his military boss, but also against the administration’s policy as well.  The famed general was none other than General Douglas MacArthur who was fired for going to the press one time to many.

Like MacArthur before him, Adm. Fallon has forgotten that he serves at the leisure of the President.  As such, he can not dictate policy, he can not change policy, nor should he go to the press to voice his displeasure with the President’s policy.  If he has any qualms, the CentCom commander has an obligation to take those views to his boss and ultimately to the President.  But once the decision is made, the Commander has a duty to follow the President’s policy or he can quit.  The bottom line, Fallon worked for the President—period.  Not the press, and certainly not to members of the white flag Democrats who push their own political power before the security of the United States.

The lesson may or may not be learned.  As MacArthur once stated, ‘Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.’  Fallon may have a few months of glory as the left uses him to bash the Bush administration as they used Cindy Sheehan.  In the end Ms. Sheehan was all but abandoned by the anti-war left.  Fallon would do well to learn from her example.  Adm. Fallon may indeed become the new trumpet for the left, but in the end he will be abandoned by his new friends, and then he will fade away and be forgotten.  Treatment not worthy of a once proud admiral.

I wish you fair sailing, Admiral.  You will need it.
