Why are Republicans Supporting Chet Edwards?

Will the real Chet Edwards please stand up?  This is a question I ask myself every two years.  The only time we ever hear from him is when he is running for re-election.  He sends out letters telling how he has supported President Bush in his war on terror and how he is spending money for us.  Then, when he is re-elected, we will not hear from him for another two years.  Chet makes me feel like a cheated harlot.

Some of my local Republicans from my home county of Grimes have caved in and are now supporting this liberal.  A month before the primary election I read an article in the local paper how Chet Edwards was bringing money to Grimes County by paving county road 172.  Okay?!  So he throws money in our direction every two years, so what?  All that says is that some of my Republican friends can be bought and very cheap buy at that.

Some of my other friends are supporting Chet Edwards on one issue: the military.  Yeah, he seems to support the military, but there is more to the man than this single issue.  On every other issue supported by conservatives, Chet leans far to the left.  Chet Edwards is no Zell Miller.  I would support Zell against just about any Republican candidate because of his conservatism.  Edwards on the other hand is as liberal as they come.  He supports abortion (even the barbaric partial birth abortion), he did not support President Bush’s tax cuts, he does not support gun rights protected by the Second Amendment, and he does not support America’s energy independence by drilling in ANWR.  Let me make this perfectly clear; Chet Edwards is not a conservative.

Nancy Coppock at Jackalope’s Voice is one who does not support the ‘Chet Edwards supports our military’ mantra.  I have to agree with her.  Before the election Edwards acts like veterans are his date to the prom, afterwards he treats the them like a cheap date on a Friday night drinking binge.

The jackalope has made it clear that Chet Edwards (D) has hoodwinked our precious veterans into believing he actually cares about them. The truth is, Chet uses our veterans like a civil rights pimp to secure power and ensure his next election. Chet was there defending John Kerry (D) presidential candidate when the veterans that actually served with Kerry came out with the swift boat ads. Chet treated those veterans like they were partisan hacks presenting lies and distortions. In the last election, Chet participated in Wesley Clark’s forum on how to get Democrats elected. They weren’t going to get “swift boated” like John Kerry and actually have to address a difference of perception as to their necessity to serve the country! Chet gave a lesson on how to conduct a bare knuckles political brawl and bragged about not letting the opponent define him. Like the tenured government employee that he is, Chet was fighting back hard to preserve his own thick slab of bacon, while deceiving our veterans that it was their bacon he was saving.

Chet Edwards is for Chet Edwards, pure and simple.  The man is so slick that he has convinced many Republicans that there is no difference between him and his opponent Van Taylor.  In that regard, Chet has succeeded brilliantly.

The Democratic Party is so confident of a win for Chet Edwards in District 17; they are pulling money out of his race to place it in other more competitive districts.  And why shouldn’t they, Edwards has so many conservatives who are supporting this liberal for no good reason.  It is my hope these people will wake up from their self-induced haze to see what morons they really are.  Edwards is against just about everything conservatives hold dear. Its time for Dictrict 17-TX to wakeup and see Chet Edwards for what he really is: a die-hard liberal.

John Kerry’s Non-Apology Apology

John Kerry must think our military and veterans alike are really stupid.  Here is his non-apology apology.

“I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member or American who was offended,” Kerry said in a statement Wednesday.

“As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: My poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and [was] never intended to refer to any troop,” he said. (emphasis added by TRS)

I am sorry John Kerry.  Maybe the fact that I joined the military means I was just too stupid to interpret your ‘joke’ correctly.  This is not an apology.  It is like saying I am sorry if you are too stupid to understand what I was really saying.  And then he did not go on television to state his apology, he posted it on his website.  Its like breaking up with your girlfriend by email.  Very, very tacky.  So it makes me wonder, did he write this non-apology apology or did someone post it for him.  Either way, John Kerry comes across as insincere.

If Kerry was really apologetic he would say something like, “I am sorry for what I said.  It was not meant to offend anyone, particularly not our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  I will in the future choose my words more carefully.”  Then it would be nice if Kerry went on to promise to never again belittle or demean our troops, but considering his past history of calling our troops terrorists and calling his Vietnam era troops murderers, I won’t hold my breath.

In spite of what the media are saying, John Kerry has NOT apologized for his ‘joke.’
