If Ann Richards was still alive, she might say that John Kerry was born with a silver foot in his mouth. It seems like anytime he talks, he offends somebody. As I posted yesterday, his comments has offended the troops, and by extension, all veterans.
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
John Kerry still does not get it. If he was telling a joke as he claimed, it failed miserably and he owes the American military an apology. If he misspoke, then he owes our troops an apology. If he said what he meant, he still owes our troops serving in Iraq an apology. Instead Kerry is still trying to blame others for his big mouth.
But if anyone should apologize, Mr. Kerry said, it is President Bush and his administration officials who started the ill-conceived war. He said his remarks, which he conceded were part of a “botched joke,” had been distorted and called the criticism directed at him the work of “assorted right-wing nut jobs and right-wing talk show hosts.”
“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy,” Mr. Kerry said in a statement. “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.”
Not only did Kerry refuse to apologize for his remarks, but he is once again blaming everyone else for his gaffe. Come on, John. There are times when you have got to be a man and own up to your mistakes. Now is one of those times, you messed up and big-time.
There is an old adage I learned as a child, “If you find yourself in a hole, quit digging.” By trying to explain his ‘joke,’ John Kerry is finding himself deeper and deeper into a hole he dug. Could not have happened to a better guy.
Powerline has two blog entries well worth reading. The first is from Major E. and the second is how the media is responding to the Kerry gaffe. Michelle Malkin has a post detaining how liberals are supporting what John Kerry said.
Liberals are absolutely unbelievable. Is there any wonder we call them moonbats?
Update:
Apparently John Kerry does not need to apologize since he has a willing MSM willing to go to bat for him under the cover of covering the ‘news.’ The New York Times joins those on the left who are continually making excuses for Kerry’s remarks. The following is a typical example of how the liberal press is giving the Senator political cover.
In attacking Mr. Kerry and defending the war, the White House clearly made the calculation that achieving what has been its main strategic goal this year — riling up a dispirited conservative base — would outweigh any risk that might come in spotlighting a war that Republican Party officials said had become a huge burden for its candidates. The White House took the unusual step of releasing advance excerpts of Mr. Bush’s attacks.
The man is an embarrassment to all veterans. Kerry lambasts the intellegence of the troops and instead of just covering the news, the MSM continues the battle of attacking Republicans. Typical liberal press.
And now comes word that Kerry has apologized for his remarks denigrating the troops, but there is a problem. He did not apologize for the comments he made about the troops. Instead he apologized for messing up a stupid joke.
“I said it was a botched joke. Of course, I’m sorry about a botched joke,” Kerry, who had refused to apologize on Tuesday, said on the “Imus in the Morning” radio show on MSNBC.
I am sorry about a botched joke. Another words, I am sorry I messed up the joke, but what I was saying is basically correct and I am not taking that back. Its like saying, “I am sorry you misunderstood my joke.” He has yet to apologize to the troops for his disparaging remarks. But then why should he? The MSM is covering for him.
