Barack Obama Comes to Texas

Freshman Senator  Barack Obama visited my home state of Texas on Monday and received the welcome usually reserved for a superstar.  The AP would have us believe this shows how popular the Senator is particularly since the hero’s welcome occurred in such a conservative state.

Sen. Barack Obama got a rock star’s reception on Saturday at a venue that’s usually much less welcoming of Democrats — the Texas Capitol.

Several hundred people filled the Texas House chamber to hear the possible presidential candidate speak at the 11th annual Texas Book Festival, an event begun by first lady Laura Bush when her husband was governor. Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, is promoting his latest book, “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”

Much of the crowd shrieked and jumped to its feet when Obama walked in through a side door. Outside, another couple hundred people waited up to five hours to get his autograph, shedding their coats as a chilly morning turned into a hot afternoon. (emphasis added by TRS)

What the AP is not emphasizing are the demographics of Austin—the Capitol of Texas.  When Texas voted on the Defense of Marriage Act, Travis County (Austin) was the only county to vote against it.  The University of Texas (tu for Aggies) at Austin widely known for its liberalism.  Wikopedia has this to say about Austin:

Despite overall Republican dominance, however, there remain some cities and regions with strong Democratic power. The capital city, Austin, is a Democratic stronghold and a center of progressive political activism.

It is little wonder that Barack Obama received such a warm welcome.  Travis County is one of the most liberal counties and Austin is one of the most liberal cities in all of Texas.  Austin is one of those cities most Texans would like to forget about.

So why did the AP write such a glowing piece about Obama coming to Texas and receiving a warm welcome?  They are trying to make him more palatable to the rest of the state.  The AP knows that if Obama runs for President, he has no chance unless he wins the conservative state of Texas.  This is another example of the MSM trying to influence politics in the great state of Texas.

Sorry guys, but Texas likes its politicians a bit more conservative than what Barack Obama can give us.  He is and will always be a liberal politician.  A warm welcome in an ultra liberal city like Austin only makes the Senator a bit more unsavory.  Receiving a strong recommendation from Austin is like obtaining one from a drunk uncle.  Thanks but …ah…no thanks.

John Kerry Says Our Troops Are Stupid

As if the military or people who support our troops need one more reason to support Republicans this November, John Kerry provides it in a speech he gave in California supporting the Democratic candidate for governor.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.” (Hot Air has the audio of John Kerry’s quote)

Some of the smartest people I know are in the military. They are proud of their service and love America. Too bad the Democratic Party can not support our troops the same way Republicans do. By-in-large the Democratic Party leaders do not support our troops who are risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect the people of the United States.

We all know how Bill and Hillary Clinton loathed the military during their eight years in the White House. In return the military despised the President.

And John Kerry lied about our troops during his testimony before the Senate not long after the left the military saying that ‘war crimes was the rule, not the exception. Kerry has also called our troops terrorists on Face the Nation.

…there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night, terrorizing kids and children…

John Murtha continually bashes our troops calling them murderers. He did not do this just once but multiple times.

The bottom line is this: the Democratic Party does not support our troops. With one week until election day, this is just one more reason to support Republican Party candidates in the upcoming election.

Update:

John Kerry gave an explaination early this afternoon for his comments saying what he said was not what he was say?!

This is deflection pure and simple. In his outrageous comments he lied and lied and lied. He accused George Bush, Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, and Republicans for distorting his comments. By focusing attention on Republicans to hide his actions. He said he voted to provide funds to support the troops. Not hardly. Remember this: I actually did vote for the $87 billion to support the troops before I voted against it. Right?!

Kerry is angry. And why shouldn’t he? He was caught with his pants down. He says has always supported the troops. I would like to know what the soldiers thought about his comments to the Senate during the Vietnam War.

John Kerry is a liar and a fraud. I am embarrassed to call him a veteran. I just hope the American people can see through his antics and see him as the fraud he is. He does not support our troops and never has. And if I sound angry, it is because I am. To denigrate the troops as he has is an outrage.

Update II:

President Bush has responded to John Kerry’s comments on the lack of intelligence of our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Even in the midst of a heated campaign season, there are still some things we should all be able to agree on, and one of the most important is that every one of our troops deserves our gratitude and respect,” Bush said. (snip)

“The senator’s suggestion that the men and women of our military are somehow uneducated is insulting and shameful,” Bush said. “The men and women who serve in our all-volunteer armed forces are plenty smart and are serving because they are patriots — and Senator Kerry owes them an apology.”

You damn right John Kerry owes our soldiers an apology.  Considering how much he has denigrated our troops in the past, any attempt at humor that places our troops in the crosshairs is wrong, insensitive and stupid.

The only question I have is where are the rest of the Democrats?  Why have they not come out in support of our troops and against what Kerry said?  So far the liberal bloggers either defend Kerry’s comments or express worry since his views might influence the election towards the Republicans.  There is no outrage.  Is there no one to defend the honor of our troops except for Republicans and veterans?  What we hear from them is only silence.

With this latest outrage and the lack of response by the Democrats, why can’t we question their patriotism?  I for one do question the patriotism of anyone who does not respect the sacrifice made on a daily basis by our troops.
