Media Declares War on Republicans
The media seems to have declared war against most Republicans including the Bush administration. Gone is hint of objectivity. Penraker says it is as bad as he has ever seen it.
This is the worse I have seen it. The gloves are off now, the media feel no compulsion to tell the truth in any fashion. They have decided that Bush is bad for America, and will use all their powers to convince you of that in the coming weeks.
Now Bob Woodward has a new book out called, “State of Denial: Bush at War, part III.” Many people are divided on the issue of whether he actually has an agenda or if he just coming out forty something days before the 2006 mid-term election to sell more books. In my opinion, all of his books are all about him. If he takes down the Republican Party at the same time, so much the better. At no time has Woodward ever been objective.
Powerline looks at the flurry of hit jobs perpetrated by the msm over the last few weeks. Week before last it was the attacks on the reconstruction efforts in Iraq. Last week it was the false reporting on the National Intelligence Estimate. And this week, it is Bob Woodward’s new hit job on the war on terror.
This week, it’s Bob Woodward claiming that that “secret reports countered Bush optimism” on Iraq. Woodward’s piece is a joke from the opening paragraphs. There he juxtaposes President Bush’s claim that “years from now people will look back on the formation of a unity government in Iraq as a decisive moment in the story of liberty” and the beginning of a retreat by the fo[r]ces of terror, with an internal report predicting that 2007 would be a bloody year in Iraq. But there’s no contradiction here. Bush was not making a prediction about the level of violence in Iraq in 2007; he was stating that the formation of the government signaled the beginning of the long-term demise of terrorism. This prediction may be too optimistic, but it hasn’t been shown to be, nor would a prediction about the long-term that turned out to be overly optimistic prediction amount to deception.
As Powerline noted, Woodward can not be trusted to tell the truth openly. He has become part of the growing problem in the media. He has chosen partisanship over objectivity.
Too many times Woodward crosses the line between a journalist and a fiction writer. He has been known to exaggerate the news and sometimes even writing outright lies.
Woodward has also been accused of exaggeration and fabrication by other journalists, most notably regarding “Deep Throat”, his famous Watergate informant. Before he was revealed to be W. Mark Felt, some contended that Deep Throat was a composite character based on more than one Watergate source. Martin Dardis, the chief investigator for the Dade County State Attorney, who in 1972 discovered that the money found on the Watergate burglars came from the Committee to Re-elect the President, has complained that All the President’s Men misrepresented him. Woodward was also accused of fabricating his deathbed interview with Casey, as described in Veil; critics say the interview simply could not have taken place as written in the book. Finally, an investigation by the New York Review of Books found that Woodward fabricated a sensational story about Justice William J. Brennan in The Brethren, among other issues.
So let me get this right. Former CIA Director Casey was in a coma and Bob Woodward is such a good reporter that he does not allow slight problem hinder his interview. In spite of not being able to talk, Woodward still conducts the interview. Wow! What a reporter.
If Woodward would lie about interviewing Casey, then how can I believe anything else he says, especially when there are enough current and former Bush administration officials who have denied many of the parts in the book?
Now with the Mark Foley emails coming to light along with his abrupt resignation, both the DNC and the msm are frothing at the mouth in anticipation of even more blood in the water. Sure, Foley should have resigned long ago. He is sick. But to blame Republicans for the action of one is too much. That would be like me blaming the entire Democratic Party for the actions of that sexual predator, Bill Clinton. I don’t blame them for his actions. I blame the Dems for trying to cover-up and accept his actions. With the Mark Foley affair, all Republicans are distancing themselves from him. That is the difference.
There is a pattern: the fake Valerie Plame affair, the lies about Iraq, the false NIE statement, Bob Woodward’s new novel, and the actions of the media during the Mark Foley affair all show the media has decided this election must go to the Democrats. They have in fact chosen sides. In doing so, the msm has lost all objectivity.
