The West Fails to Confront Evil, Just Like in 1938
Victor Davis Hanson has gotten the history of Europe right; they have always backed down before tyrants and dictators. He compares that bygone era with how the Europeans are treating terrorism. When the going got tough……., Europe caves in. Be sure to read the rest of the article. Here is just a little bit.
Our present generation too is on the brink of moral insanity. That has never been more evident than in the last three weeks, as the West has proven utterly unable to distinguish between an attacked democracy that seeks to strike back at terrorist combatants, and terrorist aggressors who seek to kill civilians.
Haven’t we learned anything in the five years since al Qaeda attacked the US on 9/11? Since the attacks, we have been battling terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan. Terrorists have attacked in England, Spain, India, Russia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and others. And still, western countries refuse to call Hezbollah a terrorist organization or confront terrorism in general.
In our own country the cut-and-run Democrats have not learned anything either.
And finally examine here at home reaction to Hezbollah — which has butchered Americans in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia — from a prominent Democratic Congressman, John Dingell: “I don’t take sides for or against Hezbollah.” And isn’t that the point, after all: the amoral Westerner cannot exercise moral judgment because he no longer has any?
I guess the moral of the story is that a liberal is a liberal, no matter what country they are from. None of them seem to be able to confront terrorism, none support war even as a last resort, and they continue to make excuses for those who wish to destroy our freedoms, whether in the past or now.
In short, if we wish to learn what was going on in Europe in 1938, just look around.
Isn’t that the truth.
