How to Become an Illegal Alien

This is good.  A man from Maryland writes to his Senator, Sarbanes, in the hopes of becoming an illegal alien to avoid paying income taxes for two years.  I like it!

World Trade Center, The Movie

Ever since I saw the trailer on tv, I wanted to see the movie: World Trade Center.  Then I heard that Oliver Stone directed the movie.  Oh, boy?!  You know, the same director who made Born on the Fourth of July, JFK, and other….(yawn)….movies.  Turns out it may not be such a bad movie after all.  Cal Thomas had this to say about WTC.

I have a long list of favorite patriotic movies, including “Victory at Sea,” “Yankee Doodle Dandy” and “Sands of Iwo Jima,” but Oliver Stone’s “World Trade Center” is right up there with the best of them. It is one of the greatest pro-American, pro-family, pro-faith, pro-male, flag-waving, God Bless America films you will ever see. (snip)

“World Trade Center” is the story of five men who volunteered to enter the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001 in their role as officers of the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD). Three of them died and two, Will Jimeno (played persuasively by Michael Pena) and Sergeant John McLoughlin (played magnificently by Nicolas Cage), were buried in the rubble. These are real men who love their wives and children and are not afraid to say so. They are religious men who pray without shame or reserve. In fact, Jesus makes an appearance in Jimeno’s hallucination, carrying a bottle of water to quench his thirst). Treating faith as genuine and with respect has only recently made a comeback among filmmakers.

I hope WTC is as good as Cal Thomas says it is.  It has taken Hollywood some time to start making movies about 9/11.   Flight 93 was the first of what I hope is many more, reminding the American people why we fight.  Hopefully these movies taken together will become like Frank Capra’s Why We Fight World War II series. Only this time the movies will become a series on why we are fighting against terrorism.

Blogger Jack Yoest says of the WTC:

What it was and what it was not.

It was not a conspiracy movie.

It did not bash Bush.

It was not sappy.

It was not about stupid, church-going nuts.

It did not mock marriage.

It did not blame America.

It did not support radical Islam.

It did not mock Marines.

It did not mock Jesus.

It did not mock cops.

It did not mock family, faith or freedom.  (snip)

We spoke to Blankley. He was surprised at Stone’s movie, “Good, True, Patriotic, Religious.”

Kate O’Beirne from Nation Review was a bit more skeptical about Oliver Stone, “His other movies don’t sell, nobody goes to them. So he made this to appeal — to sell. He wants to make money.”

And so he will. You must see how Stone can make a movie with Jesus, yes Him, without a smirk. Mel Gibson can do Passion, sure. But Oliver Stone?

Better check the temperature in Hell. The impossible has happened. Oliver is redeemed.

The movie is due to be released on August 9, 2006.  I’ll be waiting.

News From Texas House District 52

I am not in Texas House District 52 so beyond a partisan level, this race does not matter to me.  Currently the seat is held by Republican Mike Krusee.  This is a district which voted for President Bush over John Kerry 61% to 39% respectively.  Two years ago Krusee did not have a Democratic opponent, but this year he will have to face Karen Felthauser.  I do not believe Felthauser has much of a chance of winning in a solidly Republican district, but I have to give her an A for trying.  Look at this press release from her office.

Karen Felthauser (D-Round Rock) has been stacking up major endorsements from the education and labor communities, for her campaign to unseat the Republican incumbent in Texas House District 52.

“I am honored and humbled to announce that I have received the endorsements of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Texas Federation of Teachers, Education Round Rock and many members of the Williamson County education community.” said Felthauser.

Receiving an endorsement from the AFT (American Federation of Teachers), the NEA (National Education Association), TSTA (Texas State Teachers’ Association), or the AFL-CIO might mean something if these organizations ever endorsed anyone other than a Democrat.  As a former teacher and a delegate to the state convention of the NEA and TSTA, I can say I have never, ever seen them endorse a Republican.

One of the reasons the NEA has never supported a Republican candidate may be their advocacy of a very liberal agenda outside of education.

In addition to pursuing a broad non-education related agenda, the National Education Association actively pursues a decidedly liberal social agenda through its resolutions, its legislative agenda, and financial support of and alignment with liberal social groups such as National Organization for Women, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Human Rights Campaign, and People for the American Way.

Is there any wonder this ultra liberal organization will only support a Democrat?

When I hear a press report like this one from Karen Felthauser, I like to read from whom the candidate is receiving endorsements.  When I see ringing endorsements like these from ultra liberal organizations, I definitely lean towards the other candidate.

Sorry Karen, you receive an A for effort, but that is it.  Of course if I were running for office, I would not want any of these organizations endorsing me….unless I were a Democrat.
