New York Times is Not on Our Side
I knew the writers at the New York Times were liberal and at times traitorous. But now I feel certain they are not at all on our side in this war against the terrorists. When US authorities say anything, it is held with suspicion. On the other hand, if someone captured by the US says they were tortured and offer absolutely no proof, it is held in the highest esteem. Take the case of Algerian Laid Saidi who was Muslim, found with a fake passport, was helping to raise money for an Islamic foundation accused of financing terrorist groups, but he was ‘wrongfully imprisoned’ and tortured.
In May 2003, Mr. Saidi was expelled from Tanzania, where he ran a branch of Al Haramain Islamic Foundation, an international charity based in Saudi Arabia that promoted the fundamentalist Wahhabi strain of Islam and has since been shut down after being accused of financing terrorist groups. Tanzanian newspapers reported on Mr. Saidi’s expulsion at the time, but nothing was known about where he went.
In a recent interview, Mr. Saidi, 43, said that after he was expelled he was handed over to American agents and flown to Afghanistan, where he was held for 16 months before being delivered to Algeria and freed without ever being charged or told why he had been imprisoned. He acknowledged that he was carrying a fake passport when he was detained, but he said he had no connection to terrorism.
Wearing a white robe and a white skullcap in his lawyer’s office here, he held up two white shoes he said his captors gave him before setting him free in August 2004. The only other physical evidence he offered of his imprisonment were fading scars on his wrists that he said were from having been chained to the ceiling of a cell for five days.
That is the proof? That is torture? Torture is when someone’s head is slowly sawed off while the person is screaming in pain. We have video proof this took place. Shackling someone to the ceiling for five days is not torture. If the NYT had its way we would all sit around with flowers in our hair while these terrorists killed us off one by one. Only when the terrorists came for them would they wake up and see these terrorists for the threat they are. Only then it would be too late.
A July 2004 German intelligence report on Al Haramain made note of Mr. Saidi’s expulsion but said, “It is not yet clear whether there existed concrete assessments that this person had links to terrorism.” It added that “the Tanzanian government justified their procedure with the not very credible argument that he had broken legal regulations for foreigners.”
Huh? Saidi worked with a ‘charity’ which gave financial support to terrorism and had a fake passport. It seems very credible to me.
The Times spends a lot of time telling what ‘happened’ to Saidi, accepting at face value the story he told them. Of course anything US authorities say has absolutely no credence whatsoever. If I had to guess, I would say Saidi has been reading too many Tom Clancy novels. Where is the proof all this happened?
As usual the New York Times supports the position of those fighting against our country. I just wish more people would discontinue their subscriptions to the Times. They are not on our side in this war.
