WMDs Found in Iraq, Left Could Care Less

For three years we have been told by the left that ‘Bush lied, people died.’  One of the lies these people say President Bush told was Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.  Where are the WMDs, they ask.  Since we can’t find them, then Bush lied.  We sent troops to Iraq for a lie and on and on they go.  Turns out according to the Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte,

…since 2003 Coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent.

So George Bush did not lie.  Don’t expect to hear this news in the MSM since this new information is beneficial to the President.

The question is why isn’t the White House pushing this news?  Both Democrats and the left have been hammering away at the President on the lack of WMDs in Iraq.  And now that we have evidence of their existence, we hear nothing from the President.

In a way I can understand Bush’s position.  We are already in Iraq, it doesn’t matter how we got there as long as we finish the job.  But I still think this information needs a little push.  The Dems will cry about the move being political, but they have politicized the whole issue of the US being in Iraq for the last three years.

What does the left have to say about this breaking news, they are in denial.  The tin-hat kos kids are all over the map on this one, from the WMDs were planted to the WMDs were worthless.  Big surprise there.

No great surprise that the Rubber Stamp Republicans are absolutely shameless. But this from Santorum really takes the cake. (snip)

Congressman Hoekstra and I are here today to say that we have found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, chemical weapons…. Since 2003, coalition forces have recovered approximately 500 weapons munitions which contain degraded mustard or sarin nerve agent. Despite many efforts to locate and destroy Iraq’s pre-Gulf War chemical munitions, filled and unfilled pre-Gulf War chemical munitions are assessed to still exist.

“We”? Did Santorum and Hoekstra do what teams of UN weapons inspectors and the Iraq Survey Group couldn’t? (snip)

Total denial.  Others agree with me on the WMD issue.  Brian Dufala at Rational Conservative says

To be clear, let’s not make any claims here that these are nuclear warheads or anything like that.  Obviously, the gravest concern with Iraq was that they were developing nuclear weapons.  While it seems certain that the desire was there by Saddam, Iraq was not at that point.  And yet, it is also clear that there were weapons in Iraq that were in fact WMD’s and were in fact against the sanctions.  Thus, despite the efforts of the Democrats to hide the truth about Iraq, there have been and still are WMD’s in Iraq.

True, so true.  People, particularly the media, seem to forget Saddam violated 14 UN resolutions some of which dealt with the WMD issue.  He also violated the terms of the armistice ended the fighting in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.

Taking Back North Dakota says the liberal establishment still doesn’t care that we found WMDs in Iraq.

This pretty much debunks the “Bush lied!” crowd. I’m not surprised by this. I’ve been saying that the search for WMDs is far from over pretty much since the liberals declared that there was without a doubt no weapons. Really, anyone who’s followed this debate and this story should know that we have been finding a lot of these types of munitions. Don’t expect the media to follow this story, either.

Dan at Necessary Roughness cuts to the heart of the matter.  Where is the MSM in this story?

If this is true, then I either have a newfound respect for the government’s ability to cover up or a new low in respect for major media. The media is everywhere. They should have found it and reported it if they were true journalists. Did they choose not to report it because it supposedly supports Republicans?

Hmmmm.  It makes me wonder too, Dan.

  1. What a freekin joke!

  2. Clearly, the left does not want this whole thing to be true. Otherwise, what excuses will they have left?

  3. And you wonder why I laugh at you stupid, stupid Republicans. But don’t get huffy, I laugh at the stupid, stupid Democrats, too. Both parties are useless to freedom and liberty, but useful to destroying our country and the Constitution.

    News Update
WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION FOUND IN IRAQ?

US Sen. Rick Santorum and Rep. Pete Hoekstra, both Republican conservatives staged a press conference this week to crow weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq. Pro-war groups are making a great rumpus about this canard.

It is deeply disturbing to see two American lawmakers promoting an absurd lie to the public and media, and making fools of themselves.

Five hundred old artillery shells containing toxic agents mustard gas and nerve gas were found in Iraq, leftovers from the 1980-1988 war against Iran. These artillery shells were of medium calibre, to be fired from howitzers with a maximum rage of 18 miles. Their minimum 16-year old content were likely rendered largely inert by age and environment.

More important, these were battlefield weapons intended for use against Iranian troops. Calling them weapons of mass destruction is a nonsense. We might as well call machine guns wmd’s.

Embarrassingly for the senator and congressman, the components to make the mustard and nerve gas in the shells came from our allies in Europe - Germany, Holland, Belgium and Italy - and was secretly financed by the US Dept of Agriculture through Italian banks. The legislators who made this claim are either fools or charlatans - or both.

  4. Come on rd. You don’t like the Republican and you don’t like the Democrats. Who do you like? I have always been told, don’t complain unless you have a solution. So what is your solution. So far I have only heard complaints.
Define WMD. As far as I know, no arbitrary number of deaths has been set to make a weapon a WMD. What makes a WMD is its potential to kill a great many with one shot. I realize my definition would make the attacks on 9/11 fall into the category of WMDs and you would be right. On 9/11 I was surprised by the response of both Democrats and Republicans who said we were attacked with a weapon of mass destruction. I was surprised because we only have one response to such an attack. A machine gun can only kill one person at a time, therefore it can not be considered a wmd by any definition.
All of this discussion does not resolve the matter that Saddam Hussein had undisclosed WMDs. He knew the penalty for his failure to disclose them. It matters little that the projectiles only had a range of less than twenty miles. It does not matter.

  5. Gawddamn Chuck, your right again, ‘it doesn’t matter.’ And I’ll say it again, what a damn fine return on our investment of nearly 300 million Federal Reserve Notes a day; for that we get over 2,500 dead American troops, who knows how many headless, armless, legless, earless, sightless, brain damaged - physically and emotionally - wounded. Hell, we were lucky Bush and Congress got us in on the ground floor of this deal.
