Since three detainees at the ‘Camp Gitmo’ hanged themselves, the US is coming under increasing pressure to close down the facility. The people at Guantanamo detention center are either members of al-Queda or members of the Taliban. Many in the facility have participated in attacks against our troops. And now, since they have been detained at Gitmo for 4 and ½ years, we are supposed to just let these terrorists go?
While U.S. officials argue the suicides were political acts aimed at hurting American standing in the world, human rights activists and former detainees say prisoners are desperate after years in captivity and view suicide as the only way out even though Islam forbids it.
“A stench of despair hangs over Guantanamo,” said Mark Denbeaux, a defense lawyer who visited a client at Guantanamo on June 2. “Everyone is shutting down and quitting.” (snip)
He said he was alarmed by the depression he saw in his client, Mohammed Abdul Rahman, who was “trying to kill himself” by hunger strike.
This argument is completely bogus. These terrorists have better living conditions and better food than they had in Afghanistan and Iraq. The detention center which Rush Limbaugh rightly calls ‘Club Gitmo,’ caters to the detainees every need, except allowing them to carry out attacks against our soldiers and the US.
The idea that anyone would kill themselves in a hunger strike is silly. Hunger strikes are always political. The idea being an a detainee threatens to hurt himself in order to force compliance on some issue. It is political.
Come on! This is just another chance for countries to gang up once again on the United States. Those who are against this war will use any excuse to attack the US and the war.
A British citizen released from Guantanamo disputed Craddock’s view the suicides were carried out as part of holy war.
“Killing yourself is not something that is looked at lightly in Islam, but if you’re told day after day by the Americans that you’re never going to go home or you’re put into isolation, these acts are committed simply out of desperation and loss of hope,” said Shafiq Rasul, 29, who waged a hunger strike while a Guantanamo detainee.
So when these terrorist blow themselves up, they are not committing suicide? In all likelihood, Rasul is partly right. These three terrorists lost hope and hanged themselves in desperation and after learning of Abu al-Zarqawi’s death. Or it could be these terrorists finally figured out they would never be able to attack the US and therefore collect the 72 virgins. Just the very thought of this drove the terrorists over the edge.
After something like this happens, you can always count on a politician to search out a camera to attack the US position.
The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said he would like to see the detainees’ cases judged more quickly.
“Where we have evidence they ought to be tried, and if convicted they ought to be sentenced,” Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., said on CNN’s Late Edition.
This RINO is an embarrassment to the Republican Party. For the life of me, I don’t know why President Bush supported Specter’s re-election. What he should focus on is the fact that we have three empty spaces at Club Gitmo to place more terrorists.
None of these old European countries can seem to figure out that the world is at war with terrorism. Even France’s pacifism has not saved the French people from terror attacks. There is only one way to stop these attacks, kill the terrorists.
