Memorial Day: Remember the Wounded

While we as a nation are remembering Memorial Day, let’s not forget those who fought and were wounded in battle.  Many came home, but will never be the same again.  I do not know anyone who fought and died in the GWOT, but I know a few who came home with multiple injuries.  They can not be forgotten.

I have a close friend who survived as one of the Frozen Chosin.  This man suffers from facial cancers because of the damage of frost bite.  In the past two years, he has made 43 trips to the VA hospital in San Antonio.  He has had multiple surgeries, graphs, and bone in his forehead removed.  In the winter his fingers split where they suffered frost bite.  And yet this man proudly served as a US Marine in Korea. They are all heroes in my book.

Lets remember our heroes who died for our country, but lets also remember those heroes who suffered and are still suffering from the effects of this and other wars.  God Bless them All.

Compromise on Illegal Immigration No Sure Thing

The media it seems is ready for a major compromise between the competing Senate and House immigration bills to put all illegal aliens on the path to citizenship.  If you watch any television, you see both Democrats and moderate Republicans so busy clapping each other on the back that they don’t see what they have really passed: an amnesty bill.  They also don’t see what the Republicans in the House are saying either.  One of those attempting to step on the breaks is James Sensenbrenner, a Republican from Wisconsin.

Sensenbrenner said he didn’t want people telling him in his old age that he “made the biggest mistake” of his “career signing off on a bill that ended up making the problem worse.”

Considering this bill would make 11 million illegal immigrants American citizens, what else could it do but make things worse.  This will be the legacy of this Congress, make no mistake about it.  And the voters will be sure to remember who sold them out.  The Senate bill is far from what I would call a bi-partisan measure considering 36 Senators voted against it.  Every day come news reports of even more of an influx of illegal aliens into this nation.

Hopefully the House of Representitives which is much closer to the people than the Senate will be able to save this nation from itself.  For far to long we have had the welcome mat out, its time to pick it up again.

“I’m hopeful that the House will save us from this bill,” said Sen. John Ensign, a Nevada Republican.

Yeah, me too.
