Ordeal of a Wounded Soldier

In times past I have made the comment that a letter was a must read, but this one really is.  This is a letter from the dad of the ordeal of a wounded Iraq War veteran.  If you can read this letter and not believe our soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are not true heroes, then I question not only your patriotism, but your ability to feel any kind of emotion.  Our soldiers are true American heroes.

I also see in the letter a sense of how insensitive and uncaring many people can be towards our wounded soldiers.  While I wish these dolts no ill will, I hope for their sake I never run into any of them.

Armed Forces Day

You have got to see this from Lone Star Times.  What a sniper feels when he shoots a terrorist?

Today is Armed Forces Day.  Let them know how much you appreciate their sacrifice.

Rick Perry Signs Bill on Funeral Protests

I was told as a kid that there is a time and place for everything. Apparently not everyone has learned this lesson. There are these idiots who go to the funerals of our fallen heroes to protest the US tolerance of homosexuality.  What they are saying is despicable.

Since last year, the Westboro Baptist church, based in Topeka, Kansas, has been picketing funerals of soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, waving signs saying, “Thank God for Dead Soldiers”, “Thank God for IEDs [improvised explosive devices-roadside bombs]”, and “God Hates Cripple Soldiers”, while yelling that dead US troops will “rot in hell.”

These idiots defend themselves with this ridiculous rant from the church’s website.

“Where in God’s name did he get the idea that it was noble to fight in a fag army for a fag nation that’s on the short path to eternal destruction?”

These fallen soldiers are American heroes.  And for these heroes to be treated so disgracefully, so dishonorably after they have given their lives for this country is a disgrace.  Thankfully Gov. Perry has signed a bill requiring protests at gravesites to be at least 500 feet away. So far nine other states have passed similar bill while nine other states are debating the measure. Perry defended the bill this way:

“There is a time and place for protests, but it is not at funerals and burials for U.S. soldiers who died to protect the freedoms we hold so dear,” Perry said. “This bill takes immediate effect, so not another day goes by that someone could callously disrupt the services of a fallen soldier.”

I like and defend free speech, but there is a time and place for everything.  I cannot in any way defend the actions of this church.  They are a disgrace.

Once blog goes even further.  Right of Texas says that this legislation is commonsense.

Anyone protesting at soldiers funerals is heartless, and not deserving of American citizenship.

European Union Played By Iran

The way Europe is dealing with Iran reminds me of my infrequent shopping trips to Mexico. One advantage of living in the southern part of Texas is I can go down to Mexico every once in a while and buy all kinds of neat stuff. One thing I learned early on in my buying sprees was how to haggle over prices. For example I might see a sombrero I want to buy. Lets say the asking price is lets say $50. I will offer the store owner or salesman $25. He will most likely counter offer and on and on we would go until we had reached a price that was satisfactory. Occasionally, the owner will not want to go down on the price and so I will say no thanks and start to walk out of the store. The store owner will all of a sudden start lowering the price. It is then that I smile to myself and keep walking, knowing that I have won this round. Many times the owner will actually follow me outside lowering the price and maybe even adding in other things to the sombrero in order to encourage me to buy this funny looking hat.

Europe is dealing with Iran the same way. Iran is trying to acquire nuclear weapons and to that end is enriching uranium. As a result Europe is trying to buy a promise from the Iran’s ruling mullahs to not build the bomb. Iran, playing the role of a reluctant buyer, pretends to walk out the door. On cue, the Europeans up the offer even higher. Once again the Iranian’s say no and keep walking. Then the Europeans give an even better bid and start adding to it which takes us to the present set of circumstances in the negotiations between the west and Iran. Whatever is offered by the big three of England, Germany, and France Iran, you can be sure the offer will be met with derision. So they will up the ante again.

European nations on Tuesday weighed adding a light-water reactor to a package of incentives meant to persuade Tehran to give up uranium enrichment — or face the threat of U.N. Security Council sanctions.

When will the European Union realize they are being played? Iran will most likely still try to acquire a nuclear bomb in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which requires:

Non-nuclear-weapon States Parties undertake not to acquire or produce nuclear weapons or nuclear explosive devices. They are required also to accept safeguards to detect diversions of nuclear materials from peaceful activities, such as power generation, to the production of nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices.

Obviously Iran is ignoring the treaty they were a signitory to. While the Iranians are in the process of acquiring nuclear weapons, they are attempting to milk everything they can from the clueless European Union.
