Indians, Affirmative Action, and Illegal Aliens

There is a connection between the treatment of the Indians, Affirmative Action, and the Illegal Alien movement: it’s the government is going to take care of you.  The government can hardly take care of itself, much less anyone else.  But when the government comes in to help, it is does not just pick them back up, it carries them.  When a parent continually carries a baby, the child will not learn to walk.  The same is true of whom the government helps.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs was started March 11,1824 under the auspices of the War Department in the James Monroe administration.  While the government was saying they were merely taking care of the Indians, in reality no one expected the Indians to be able to take care of themselves in the modern world.  And so the BIA was started to ‘help the Indians, gave them food, shelter, etc.  Today, alcoholism is at 70-80%, unemployment is double the national average, while more than a third live in poverty.  According to George Catlin, at one time the Indians self sufficient.

Every kind of excess is studiously avoided.

Amongst the wild Indians in this country, there are no beggars - no drunkards - and every man, from a beautiful natural precept, studies to keep his body and mind in such a healthy shape and condition as will, at all times, enable him to use his weapons in self-defense, or struggle for the prize in their manly games. (Catlin, Vol. I., p. 123.)

So much for taking care of them.  In their zeal to help the Indians, the BIA ended up taking any incentive for them to help themselves.  It is still that way today.

The Democratic Party started Affirmative Action under the Lyndon Johnson administration.

The policy was introduced in 1965 by President Johnson as a method of redressing discrimination that had persisted in spite of civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees.

Once again, the government was saying one thing while they in reality were believing another thing entirely.  Believing African-Americans were not intelligent enough to make it on their own, Johnson decided to help them.  In doing so they have created a group of people wholly subjugated to the Democratic Party.  Any time a group of blacks attempted to break off, the Dems would tell them that they are not smart enough to make it on their own with evil Republican waiting in the shadows to take away their safety net, permitting them to starve, taking away their right to vote, and many other evil things.  By following the Democratic Party around like they are, they are allowing themselves to be put under the thumb of their benefactors. Affirmative action also takes away any initiative for blacks to help themselves.

In their time Booker T. Washington and DuBois could hardly have foreseen what has happened to their people.  Washington advocated a slow entry into the white culture, slowly gaining rights as they progressed.  In doing so, by overcoming a great many obstacles, the black race would become better, stronger than ever before.

“I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. Out of the hard and unusual struggle through which he is compelled to pass, he gets a strength, a confidence, that one misses whose pathway is comparatively smooth by reason of birth and race.”

W.E.B. DuBois on the other hand took a different approach.  In 1909 he created the NAACP to help forcibly integrate the black race with the white.  A believer in Karl Marx, BuBois decided that only happen through agitation and protest could social change come about.  He eventually became disenchanted with the United States and left the country when change did not come quickly enough.

The two men, Washington and DuBois did not agree on the course of action for blacks, but I would imagine they would have both detested Affirmative Action as a means of achieving integration.  By maintaining the discriminatory Affirmative Action, all blacks now have a stigma they must overcome.  Did the success they now enjoy come from Affirmative Action or through sheer initiative?  While keeping A.A. in place, the Democrats are telling African-Americans, you are not smart enough to make it on your own, and so we are going to help you.  In reality, A.A. is keeping the foot of the Dems on the throat of blacks, keeping them subservient, and wholly dependent on the Democratic Party.  Many times black unemployment is double that of whites.  Could it be that many blacks look to the place they were told to look for help: the government.  Booker T. Washington believed that making it on your own would make you stronger.  I believe he was right.  The government fails miserably when it comes to taking care of people.

And now the Dems are going to take care of Latinos, telling the same thing they told African-Americans and the Indians before them.  “We are your friends. We will make you citizens, and then we will take care of you.”  Implied is the part of the lack of intelligence; that Latinos are not smart enough to take care of themselves.  The government waiting to help all those who need help.  Unfortunately, they are not very good at letting people stand on their own.  The Democratic Party has a vested interest to keep it that way.  It is all about power.

The Republican Party needs to wake up and realize that when a great many Democrats support their initiative, someone has let the wolf into the henhouse.  The Republican Party is supposed to be standing for personal initiative, lower taxes, and economic growth; the American dream if you will.  It is okay to help people get back on their feet, but it is not okay to prop them up.  Doing so takes away all initiative to independence.

From the BIA to Affirmative Action to amnesty, the government is ready to help those in need.  But what it does is to create an underclass of disadvantaged people who have no initiative to make it own their own.
