Stop the Proposed Amnesty Plan

There are times when I wish I could write as eloquently as some of the more well known bloggers.  Today is just such a day.  John Hawkins has written several times on the immigration problem we have in this country and has written another detailing why the new proposed legislation passed by the Judiciary Committee is nothing more than an amnesty program which will lead to an influx of even more illegal aliens.  Be sure to read the rest of John’s post in Right Wing News where he has even more information, including what the proposed legislation actually does.  Here are some conclusions he made which are much like mine.

For a moment, let’s just set aside the fact that…

– This legislation is a disaster for America and will lead to more illegals pouring over the border in hopes of a future amnesty.

– The same people who snuck into our country in the dead of night and were out in the street this week-end waving Mexican flags and claiming America is stolen land, will be offered citizenship.

– This is a huge slap in the face, a big, “You’re an idiot,” to all the people who obeyed our immigration laws and actually waited in line to enter this country legally. When lawbreakers are rewarded and people who respect the law are treated like fools, expect more criminal behavior.

– We’ve already had one massive amnesty back in 1986. Back then, they promised we’d never have another one and that we’d tighten up security. Now, 20 years later, here we are right back in the same position. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

With all the Mexican flags in the protest march, I have heard some wonder what country the protesters are supporting, Mexico or the United States.  I can tell you from personally discussing this very issue with legal Mexican immigrants.  They believe that one day Texas and the west will belong to Mexico again if they can bring enough of their families over here.  They will outright proclaim openly that the west was stolen from them and one day they will have it back.  And these are not the radicals.  They are everyday Mexican-Americans.  This attitude should scare any of our politicians who are waffling on this issue.  Amnesty is a bad idea, particularly since these views on who owns the west is so widespread among the Latinos. Our  Senators need to wake up and see who is coming over the border.

A New Perspective on Illegal Immigrants

I found a great post on the immigration issue in Bloodletting.  This is someone who is married to an immigrant, and so he has a unique perspective.  He admits that illegal immigration from Mexico is not our only problem, but it is our largest problem.  I will leave one teaser.

If Mexicans want to come here, then fine. Do it legally. Register, so that we can make sure that your employer is not skipping out on his responsibilities to you, and passing along the costs to us. Do it legally, and let us make sure that we can weed out the murderers and drug dealers that are preying upon all of us. Do it legally. Get an education, Learn to speak english. Fine. Do all of those things. Just do them legally, or stay in Mexico.

Absolutely.  I could not agree more.

Paris Riots in the US?

France, particularly Paris, is beset with violent street demonstrations.  The protesters are taking to the streets to show their disapproval of a youth hiring program.  The program in question was put forward by French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin in an effort to promote employment among the youth.  All this sounds well and good, but there is a caveat:  There is a

… 24-month “consolidation” period, during which employees hired under the “first-job” contract may be dismissed, may be shortened by including internships, fixed-term contracts, or other work completed by the young person for the company as part of alternating work-study training programmes.

In French society when someone is hired by a company they entitled to that job for as long as the worker wants it.  As a result companies are reluctant to take a chance on a young person for fear that the worker is not any good.  Then the company has this new worker who is not any good who has qualified for life-time employment.  This new law was intended to give these companies a way out in case the young worker hired does not work out.  These youths want the same entitlements as others have and so they are protesting.

I believe this is a first step for France as they try to become competitive again.  Worker productivity is down and will stay down as long as employees have a guaranteed job.

So what does this have to do with us here in the United States?  Some on the left favor entitlements for everyone living in this country.  Even those who are not legal residents, illegal aliens, believe they are entitled to the same rights as those who are American citizens.  It is only a matter of time before the street demonstrations we saw in Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and Atlanta turn violent like the demonstrations in Paris. We can not afford to become an entitlement nation.  These riots in Paris show where we are headed if the illegal immigration problem is not resolved.

Is France an Ally of the United States

I now have more confidence in the American people.  Rasmussen has a poll which shows what people really think about the saviors of France.

Only 18% of Americans agree that France is an ally in the war on terror. Almost as many believe France is an enemy in that war.

But most (57%) say that France’s status lies “somewhere in between” ally and enemy. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to regard France as an ally, and less likely to regard her as an enemy.

And Democrats favor France more than Republicans.  Now that’s a shocker. (NOT)

We have had a troubled history with France from this nation’s beginning.  After freeing the French from Germany during WWII, we rescued and help Charles de Gaulle become Prime Minister of France.  Ever since then, France has tried to hide their embarrassment at having to be rescued by this upstart nation turning on their benefactors, by turning on the United States at every opportunity.  While they have at times worked with us, as with our independence from Great Britain, other times they have actively worked against us, like in Iraq.  Even when they were working with us, you can be sure; France had its own objectives.  If the French have two equal options to a problem, one hurts the interests of the US and the other doesn’t, they will choose the one that hurts us.

So you can count me in with those who do not consider France an ally.  There is just too much bad history between us.

American’s view of Great Britain is just the opposite.

By contrast, 76% of all Americans affirm that Great Britain is an ally in the war on terror. Only 4% consider her an enemy, and 14% believe the truth lies in between.

The poll also said 76 percent of respondents considered Great Britain an ally, rightly so.  Just before WWI, Americans considered the English as the greatest possible threat to the United States.  Afterwards, the British have become our most stalwart ally.  They remain a great ally and friend of the American people today.
