Senate Judiciary Committee Rewards Illegals With Amnesty

Today the United States Senate, specifically the Judiciary Committee, let down the American people.   Our Senators had a chance to make a stand for American law and American justice, instead curried favor with those who break our laws to come here.  When the illegal aliens demonstrated, the Senators caved in giving amnesty to the immigrants.  The legislation would give the estimated 11 million undocumented aliens citizenship provided they hold a job, pay fines, pay back taxes, learn English, and pass a background check.  And then on top of that, they passed a guest worker program that puts an approximately 500,000 immigrants on the fast track to become American citizens.  What a horrible message the Committee is sending back to the citizens of Mexico, break our laws and we will reward you with U.S. citizenship.  Personally I agree with Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama.  (Thanks to the New York Times and Rachel Swarns)

Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, said the Judiciary panel “let the American people down by passing out a blanket amnesty bill.”

Yep.

Letter From a Wounded Iraq War Veteran

WOW! Black Five has a fantastic post from an injured marine. It is a MUST READ. The posting makes you proud to be an American. Only a country like the United States could produce warriors such as these. Thank God for people like LTC Tim Maxwell. God speed.

Painting the Map Red

I have just started reading Hugh Hewitt’s Painting the Map Red. I am about half-way through the book, and it is really good and easy to read. I would recommend the Hugh’s book to anybody interested in keeping the Republican majority in Congress. The best selling author, radio talk show host, and conservative blogger gives tips to better prepare those willing to take on the Democratic Party and their left-wing agenda. The book gives a few tips and is backed up with a ton of recent historical detail from the War in Vietnam to the Global War on Terror, from Walter Cronkite to Dick Durbin. But even with all of this historical, Painting the Map Red is extremely enjoyable to read. You can find this book at your local bookstore, Amazon, or even Hugh’s website.

Questions on Immigration

I have been discussing this immigration issue for several days now, here and here.  And with the protest marches in Los Angeles, Denver, and Atlanta, the discussion is not going to stop anytime soon.  I have noted in previous posts what this is all about.  It is not about providing a better place for people from other countries to live and work.  It is not about this nation being a nation of immigrants.  It is not even we are giving jobs that Americans don’t want to undocumented workers.  It is a question of following the law.  We are a nation of laws and if we reward illegals for breaking the law, don’t you think that would be a big draw for others to come here illegally.  With that in mind, I ran across some questions posed by John Hawkin’s Right Wing News.  Read the entire article.

Question: Doesn’t this tell you a lot about how lax enforcement of immigration laws in this country have gotten? Certainly, you don’t see burglars or arsonists turning up by the tens or maybe even hundreds of thousands to rally against tougher sentences, do you?

Another Question: How did we get to the point where we have people who aren’t even in this country legally, walking around in broad daylight, waving Mexican flags, and demanding that our government cater to them?

Still Another Question: Why wasn’t Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the scene checking green cards?

Unfortunately, there are no easy answers being discussed.  There are all kinds of solutions being thrown out there.  Some reward the illegal aliens and some don’t.  But what ever you do, you are going to end up offending someone.  So why try?  But I believe John’s solution is right on the mark and in a way, very, very simple.

There’s one way out of this mess: it’s to do the right thing and treat our immigration laws like they mean something.

I could not agree more.  Follow the law.  It worked for my great-great-….grandparents when they immigrated from Ireland and it will work for the immigrants who want to come to America now.

A Slimmer NCAA Tournament Bracket?

Powerline’s Paul Mirengoff, apparently is a big supporter of George Mason University, has been writing about the Cinderella team from Virginia. While I agree with most of what he says about UConn’s easy bracket schedule and GMU’s more difficult road, I have to disagree with him concerning having a smaller contingent of teams in the 64 team bracket. Paul writes:

A final aside — in the slimmed down version of the tournament I’d like to see, George Mason still would have had its shot. By virtue of finishing the season tied for first in the Colonial Athletic conference, they would have played off against the co-champions for the right to enter the tournament, and to play against the champion of another “mid-major” conference. Had they won both games, they would have been deep into the tournament with the opportunity to upset Connecticut or whomever.

George Mason might have made it into a smaller bracket, but other good teams would not have been so lucky. One team, Texas A&M University, made the 64 team bracket by the skin of their teeth with an at-large bid. This team went into the tournament with a 21-9 record having beaten #7 Texas in College Station and came within five points of beating them again in the Big 12 Tournament. This A&M team would not have made a slimmed down version of the tournament. The Aggies, seeded 12th beat 5th seed Syracuse fairly handily. But then they lost to Final Four bound LSU when a Tiger pointer made a desperation three pointer at the buzzer. I do not know if A&M could have defeated the Duke Blue Devils, but the Aggies tough defense would have made it close. For those reasons I do not support a slimmed down version of the bracket.
